Dangerous Game

Dangerous game hunting requires proper preparation in all aspects and should never be taken lightly. Both mentally and physically, you need to be prepared for what you may encounter, able to control your emotions when things become intense and remain focused when an opportunity presents itself.

For dangerous game, reliable equipment is essential. A proven rifle platform, premium bonded soft-point ammunition and, flat-nose monolithic solids for pachyderms should be used. The rifle should feed and chamber its chosen ammunition reliably and allow the hunter to operate it quickly and confidently from the magazine. As a minimum, a .375 H&H firing a 300-grain bullet is recommended for dangerous game. However, a rifle that meets the minimum specification and can be shot confidently and accurately is worth far more than a larger calibre that the hunter cannot shoot well. Be honest with yourself, and choose wisely.

There is also the physical side of dangerous game hunting. Much of the hunting is done on foot, sometimes in extreme heat and difficult country, following tracks for hours and covering ground that can be physically demanding. You need to be capable of staying on your feet, staying focused and persevering when you are tired, hot or uncomfortable.

All dangerous game hunts are conducted on foot and in the spirit of fair chase. The hunt is about interpreting the animals behaviour and getting close enough to make the right decision when the opportunity arises. Eventually, all of the preparation, tracking, patience and discipline come down to a single moment where emotions have to be controlled and the final shot has to be made properly.

Dangerous game deserves the utmost respect, both in life and in death. Safety remains a priority, and decisions taken in field will revolve around this.

Hunt hard, hunt fairly, and respect the quarry at all times.
